We are still looking for more people to become members of Solar North. We want to build a large, shared solar power system in Fairbanks, Alaska, set an example on how to stem global warming and encourage more groups to follow! Become part of this green endeavor by investing a minimum of $500 and you will be a member of Solar North, are eligible for a 30% federal tax credit, recive payments through the "SNAP program" (for 2008 approx. $1/kWh) and 0.075c from GVEA for every green kWh produced by your share.
Our group is the ideal opportunity for many people who don't have the perfect spot on hand nor $10,000 (current price for conventional private 1kW system), but who want to start producing green energy or do something to slow down global warming, especially in Alaska...
The cost of phase 1 is estimated at $210,000 (for 25kW solar array in 2008) and members are needed to complete this project.

Why should you invest in Solar North?

Our group is driven by the aim to reduce the amount of CO2 produced from fossil fuels and offers the option for everybody to become a producer of clean, green CO2 free energy through Solar! We currently work on establishing a sound structure for our group by writing a transparent and sound operating agreement to ensure our members financial overview.

From a financial perspective, it would have been good to invest in the year 2008, because a 30% tax credit is applying for investments in alternative energy sources (this bill did not get renewed from 2009), but it may be reinstated. So come to our next meeting and get to know us and our project!!

We don't expect the cost of electricity to go down - only up

There is never a fuel shortage with solar- this investment pays off as long as the sun shines

Support for Solar North has been outstanding, however we did not quite reach our pledge goal for construction to begin this summer of 08 (we were very close). Now we have plenty of time to get more organized for next year. We are hoping the 30% tax credit will be reinstated, then we will be in really great shape to hit the ground running in the spring of 2009! Stay tuned, we will have more organizing meetings this winter. (updated: Aug 08)
